Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before starting. If your question isn't here, email us at weightloss@victoriacentralpharmacy.co.uk.
Does the consultation cost anything?
No. The online consultation and the video consultation with your prescriber are both free. You only pay for treatment if your prescriber recommends it and you decide to go ahead. Delivery is free too.
Why do you insist on a video consultation?
We think weight management should start with a proper conversation. On the call your prescriber can check your details, talk through your health and goals, and explain your options. If treatment is recommended, they'll show you how to use it. It also lets us confirm your weight and identity, which is part of prescribing safely.
Who can use the service?
Adults aged 18 to 69 with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes or sleep apnoea. Some conditions mean an online service isn't suitable, such as diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a history of eating disorders or pancreatitis. If that applies to you, we'll point you to your GP.
Who will I speak to?
A registered pharmacist or nurse independent prescriber from our clinical team. Our prescribers are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI) or the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
How quickly will my treatment arrive?
We'll contact you within one working day to book your video consultation. Once your prescriber approves treatment, it's dispensed by our pharmacy and sent by free tracked delivery in plain packaging. Anything that needs to stay cold is packed to keep it cool.
Do I have to choose a medicine first?
No. The form asks if you have a preference, but your prescriber will recommend what suits your health, your goals and your budget, and you can change your mind on the call.
I'm already on treatment with another provider. Can I switch?
Yes. Tell us what you take and your current dose in the online consultation. Your prescriber will review your progress on the video call and plan a safe continuation, so you don't have to start again from the lowest dose unless it's safer to.
What happens after my first prescription?
We stay in touch. You'll update your weight and any side effects each time you re-order, and you can ask to speak to your prescriber whenever your dose, health or medicines change.
Will you tell my GP?
With your consent, we'll let your GP know about your treatment so your records stay complete. Your prescriber will talk this through with you.
Do I still need to change my diet and activity?
Yes. These medicines are licensed to be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Your prescriber will help you set realistic changes that fit your life.
What if treatment isn't right for me?
Your prescriber will explain why and suggest what to do next, which may be speaking to your GP. There's nothing to pay.
How do I contact you?
