How to take it

  • Inject once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.
  • Inject under the skin of your tummy, thigh or upper arm.
  • Keep pens in the fridge before first use.

Usual dose steps

  1. Start on 0.25mg once a week for 4 weeks.
  2. Increase every 4 weeks: 0.5mg, then 1mg, then 1.7mg.
  3. Most people reach the 2.4mg maintenance dose after 16 weeks. Some stay on 1.7mg.

Your prescriber agrees each change with you at your check-ins, based on your progress and any side effects.

What results to expect

In clinical trials, people lost about 15% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks, alongside diet and activity changes.

Results vary from person to person. Trial figures are averages for people who also changed their diet and activity.

Side effects

The most common side effects are feeling sick, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and tummy pain. They're usually mild, are most likely when starting or increasing a dose, and tend to settle.

Get urgent medical help if you have a severe allergic reaction, severe or persistent stomach pain, or vomiting or diarrhoea that leaves you dehydrated. Always read the leaflet supplied with your medicine.

Who it isn't suitable for

Wegovy isn't suitable for everyone. Your prescriber will check your health and medicines on your video consultation. An online service isn't the safest route if you:

  • have diabetes
  • are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • have had an eating disorder, pancreatitis or severe stomach-emptying problems
  • have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2

How to get started

  1. Complete our free online consultation. It takes about five minutes.
  2. Meet a prescriber on a video call to talk through your options.
  3. If treatment is right for you, it's delivered free to your door.
