How to take it
- Take one tablet each morning on an empty stomach, at least 8 hours after you last ate.
- Swallow it whole with a sip of water (up to half a glass). Don't split, crush or chew it.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other tablets.
Usual dose steps
- Start on 1.5mg once a day for a month.
- Increase to 4mg, then 9mg, with at least a month on each.
- Increase to the 25mg maintenance dose.
Your prescriber agrees each change with you at your check-ins, based on your progress and any side effects.
What results to expect
In clinical trials, people on the 25mg tablet lost about 14% of their body weight on average over 64 weeks, alongside diet and activity changes.
Results vary from person to person. Trial figures are averages for people who also changed their diet and activity.
Side effects
The most common side effects are feeling sick, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and tummy pain. They're usually mild, are most likely when starting or increasing a dose, and tend to settle.
Get urgent medical help if you have a severe allergic reaction, severe or persistent stomach pain, or vomiting or diarrhoea that leaves you dehydrated. Always read the leaflet supplied with your medicine.
